1. Use baking soda

Baking soda is a very cheap and completely natural solution to clean your wooden deck.

The cleaning technique is also very simple.

Wet the entire deck and coat all surfaces with baking soda.

Then scrub with a good push broom and rinse thoroughly with clear water.

Extra tip:

Part of the decking may dry out before you have had time to treat the rest.

In this case, proceed rather by sections, zone by zone. That way, the baking soda doesn't have time to dry out.

2. Degrease the wood with sodium percarbonate

After a few years of good and loyal service, your wood can become dull.

This is particularly the case when it is subjected to bad weather.

To restore its nobility and revive its color, use the following grandmother's method.

In a bucket or a large basin, pour 10L of water for 220g of sodium percarbonate.

Apply the mixture all over the terrace and let it act for 20 min.

You just have to rinse with clear water to find your wooden deck like new.

3. Use washing powder against grease stains

The great barbecues you made left lots of grease stains on the terrace?

And yes, that's often what happens even when you're careful...

To get those grease stains out of wood, just do this.

Sprinkle washing powder directly on stains.

Leave on for a few minutes then scrub with your push broom.

Everything is now gone.

4. Maintain your terrace with white vinegar

In a bucket or basin, mix 50 cl of white vinegar in 4 liters of water.

Pour this water/vinegar mixture all over the terrace and let it soak for 10 min.

Use your brush broom and pass it over the entire surface of the terrace.

Rinse thoroughly with clean water and you're done.

This method is an excellent solution for regular maintenance in the summer.

5. Remove the encrusted moss from the wood

Moss and algae like to become encrusted on the slats of wooden terraces.

It's unsightly and moreover it can be dangerous, because you can slip on it.

To get rid of it easily, use coarse salt as follows.

In a basin or bucket, pour hot water and coarse salt in the following proportion:

- 1 glass of coarse salt for 1 liter of water.

Spread the solution directly or use a sprayer for more precision.

Then rinse immediately with clear water.

Do not hesitate to pour the solution all over the terrace even if you do not see traces of moss.

Incipient moss and algae are not always visible to the naked eye and this has a preventive effect.

6. Remove lichen with basil essential oil

Did you know that lichen is a fungus associated with algae?

The fungus protects the algae, while the algae feeds the fungus.

This natural symbiosis makes the lichen a very resistant intruder.

However, there is an all-natural solution to get rid of it.

First, dilute 4 or 5 drops of basil essential oil in 1 liter of warm soapy water.

Then pour the mixture on the infested areas.

Leave to act, brush with your broom and finally rinse with clean water.

7. Use black soap for an impeccable terrace

Black soap is a very practical and ultra-effective multipurpose product in many situations.

This product is also very useful when it comes to cleaning your terrace properly and making it spotless.

In a bucket, pour warm water and dilute black soap.

Respect the proportion of 2 caps of black soap for 5 liters of water.

Spread the mixture over the entire deck and scrub with the push broom.

Leave to act and rinse with plenty of water.

8. Maintain your wooden deck with citric acid

Citric acid has several advantages when it comes to cleaning your terrace.

One, it cleans perfectly.

Two, it is a completely natural product.

Finally, in addition to cleaning, citric acid also attacks the moss present on the terrace.

Mix 3 tablespoons of citric acid for 1/2 liter of water and pour the solution over the decking boards.

Leave on for 2 days before scrubbing with your push broom and then rinse with clear water.

How often should you clean your wooden deck?

We advise you to thoroughly clean your wooden deck only twice a year.

Do this after wet seasons to remove any natural deposits left by the weather.

Widely used in summer, also carry out a maintenance wash once a week to keep it clean.
