France has taken another important step towards respecting the environment .

Indeed, France has banned the use and sale of plastic cutlery, plates and cups.

The measure is part of the energy transition law, adopted in 2015, which recently came into force in France.

This law commits the whole country, individuals and professionals alike, to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Producers of plastic plates, cups or tumblers and cutlery will have until 2020 to ensure that their products are made with compostable and bio-based materials.

The ban was originally proposed by the Europe Écologie – Les Verts party to reduce the energy used in the manufacture of plastic.

But also to reduce the waste it creates.

Fortunately, France does not stop there!

Indeed, it also enacted a law requiring supermarkets to redistribute their unsold food to charities.

A very good initiative that will avoid the senseless food waste of supermarkets.

Indeed, until then, supermarkets threw away and destroyed food with an expiry date that is too close or slightly exceeded...

An aberration when you know that many foods can be eaten without any worries, even expired ones.

And of course, as you probably know, plastic bags are now prohibited.

Let's hope that France continues to be a pioneer in this field!
