Sleeping at home as if you were sleeping in a hotel? Check out these tips!

There was a time when I didn't really care what our bedroom looked like. The mattress was on the floor, the floor was then strewn with clothes and the bedroom had far from a hotel-worthy appearance. And no, that wasn't when I was a teenager. Nowadays I think very differently about it and I get happy when I look around my bedroom. It's just nice to come into the bedroom in the evening and feels a bit hotel-like with this look. Our bedroom radiates a kind of 'welcome', while it is actually not even ready yet. Great, you want to bring your bedtime earlier and making your bed will be fun too.

Give the bedroom a hotel look

Last week Lotte yelled to me 'Mom, it looks like a hotel room' when she came into her own bedroom and crawled into her bed. And that was exactly my intention. I had made her bed with a new crisp white duvet cover from Schering &Inslag. Normally she has a green duvet cover on her bed because she wanted a green-yellow room. But don't you think a second duvet cover is a must? There is nothing more annoying than washing the duvet cover and it is not dry in time in the evening. And that happens to me more than once! No idea if it's our dryer, but our duvet covers never dry well.

Besides that she thinks the duvet cover feels like she is crawling into a hotel bed, I have also laid out her pillows like in a hotel. Little effort great pleasure 😉 , and that gave me the idea to write a nice article about a bedroom with a hotel look. Because there are more things you can do to make your bedroom look like a hotel room!

A lot of pillows on your bed

Okay, so let's start with the pillows on your bed. The more pillows the better to enhance the hotel look of your bedroom. Within certain limits of course, because you still have to be able to lie in bed of course. Make sure that the colors of the pillows match the other colors in the bedroom. So partly colors that are in the duvet, but also partly colors that are reflected in the wallpaper, or in the paint on the wall. Or colors that appear in other accessories. For a real hotel look, don't just put the pillows down, but put them up a bit against the head of your bed, as shown below.

Tip:other types of pillows also work well, such as those elegant pillow rolls.

Provide a bed with headboard

If you opt for a bed with a headboard, you will soon have a more chic look than with a bed without a headboard. And if you ensure that that headboard is also covered with, for example, velvet or leather, you immediately get a real hotel look in your bedroom. Velvet not only looks very chic, but also feels very nice when you touch it with your hands. Make a nice division in your headboard as shown below or choose beautiful slats behind your bed as a headboard.

Exclusive wallpaper or other wallcovering behind your bed

In addition to a chic headboard behind your bed, you can also do a lot with the appearance of the wall behind your bed for a nice hotel look in your bedroom. Striking wallpaper like the one below with those beautiful leaves on it for example. Or wallpaper with a shine in it or metallic stucco on the wall as wall covering.

A nice duvet and an even nicer duvet cover

You can give the entire bedroom a beautiful chic look to create a hotel chic bedroom, but if your duvet and the relevant duvet cover are not nice, you can forget it. In fact, this one should probably be number one. It was not for nothing that Lotte said that she felt as if she were crawling into a hotel bed. That's because of the organic cotton bedding I used to make her bed. It is incidentally the showpiece of Schering &Inslag, the webshop where this bedding comes from.

They carefully produce durable and soft bedding that gives that wonderful feeling when you crawl under it. At the same time, it provides a nice fresh look that hotels are so good at. The 100% organic cotton comes from India where the cultivation is free of pesticides, insecticides and other chemicals. That alone makes sleeping better, of course.

Once I thought I wanted a satin duvet cover. After I had a good night's sleep on it, I quickly came back to it. Brrr, it hooks all over your feet if you have even the slightest bit of rough hands or feet and at night it also slips unceremoniously off your bed. For me nothing more than pure cotton on my bed!

A shaggy rug for your bed and a plaid on it!

There are very few people who have carpeted floors in their bedrooms. Most people opt for maintenance-friendly floors such as laminate or PVC. In that case, a deep-pile rug is beneficial to bring out the hotel look in your bedroom. In addition, it is also a lot nicer to get out of bed in the morning with your feet in the carpet instead of on the cold floor.

You can also drape a nice plaid over your bed to create just that little bit of extra look, just like I did on Lotte's bed.

Lights on, preferably before you enter the room

Lighting also does a lot in the bedroom, of course. You prefer to use romantic lighting, and not just the main lamp in the bedroom. For example, choose a garland that gives a cozy effect, or a beautiful Arabic lamp that spreads the light nicely. The nest lamp that we have in the living room also gives a nice subtle light. Check my blog about making your own lighting plan if you want to see the lamp.

Tip:Frank is the gadget freak here. I don't normally care about that much, but what I really like is that the mood lamps in our bedroom automatically switch on in the evening. Frank has set it up so that they turn on automatically by the time we go to bed. That also promotes the hotel feeling in our bedroom.

Nice-scent to fall asleep to

The last tip I want to give you is that a nice smell can do a lot. You can take care of this, for example, by purchasing a beautiful Rituals diffuser (also looks very nice), or by choosing an aroma diffuser that you fill with essential oils. The advantage of the first is that you can also set it on time. So just before you go to bed, let him do his work for a while.

Do you like a hotel look in your bedroom or do you not care much about how it looks?
