If you're an oil painter, you've likely dealt with stubborn stains on clothes or floors. Fortunately, this traditional French remedy—Terre de Sommières clay—makes removal simple and effective, without endless scrubbing. Passed down from my grandmother, it's a proven, natural solution I've used reliably for years.

To tackle oil paint stains on fabric, velvet, armchairs, leather, or other surfaces, follow these steps:
1. Generously sprinkle Terre de Sommières clay over the stain.
2. Let it sit for at least 3 hours.
3. Remove the clay using a vacuum cleaner, broom, damp cloth, or sponge, based on the surface.
The stains vanish effortlessly! If any trace remains, repeat the process with a bit of turpentine mixed into the clay, then follow the same steps.
This method excels on fabrics and leather. Terre de Sommières clay is also ideal for grease stains—check our guide for details.
It costs about €4 for 500g, is completely natural, and safe for fabrics, floors, leather, granite, marble, and more. Available at DIY stores, supermarkets, organic shops, or online.
