You adore your pets like family, but their shedding leaves hair everywhere, turning cleaning into a daily chore. Keep your home spotless effortlessly with the iRobot Roomba e5—the robot vacuum designed for pet hair and more.
We've named ours Jonnie, as it's become a trusted household member. Whenever I mention Jonnie, it's our Roomba e5 in action.

Recently, I tested the Roomba e5 in our pet-filled home, where shedding and outdoor dirt are constant challenges. With multiple pets and frequent walks bringing in debris, traditional vacuums just couldn't keep up. As someone who's tested and worn out several models, I jumped at the chance—I've long advocated for appliances that simplify life.
We've previously shared insights on robot vacuum limitations with dogs, but this review focuses on the Roomba e5's strengths for pet owners like us.
The Roomba e5 is available at Coolblue, MediaMarkt, and Bol.com.
A standout feature is the intuitive app control. Schedule cleanings easily or start Jonnie remotely. While there's a physical button, the app offers unmatched flexibility.
Set daily start times—ours runs at midnight while we sleep. Wake up to a hair-free floor. If we're still up, pause it instantly via app. Seamless.
Customize schedules by day. Dirt Detect sensors target high-traffic dirty areas, like pet hair zones or sandy spots from outdoors—proven effective in our home.
Use it upstairs? Cliff sensors prevent falls, keeping it safe from stairs. Note: Like many robots, it struggles with black carpets, mistaking them for drops, so we stick to lighter floors.
Full bin? Get an app alert, but we empty proactively. The bin and brushes clean effortlessly.
From experience comparing to cheaper models (like our old Chinese one), the dual rubber brushes excel. Pet hair rarely tangles, unlike bristle brushes that clog quickly. Jonnie rarely gets stuck—occasional guitar stand mishaps aside—ensuring reliable daily cleaning.
YouTube's fun pet-robot videos? Not here. Our dog, Cash, retreats when Jonnie approaches, watching warily from afar. The cat stays calm but skips joyrides. Practical, if less entertaining.
It's noisy for close-quarters use—I avoid running it while in the living room. But schedule it for absences or bedtime, and it shines undisturbed.
