Rural industrial interior:this is how you create a cool and warm look

I am a real interior junkie. A real design addict. Do you also love beautiful things to decorate your home? Then you probably recognize my next problem. I can't choose very well. On the one hand, I love the tough, robust look with an industrial touch. On the other hand, I also like cosy, romantic and a bit cuddly. Difficult to combine, you would think, I thought so too! Until I discovered the rural industrial interior. Ideal for people who love beautiful living, but find it difficult to really stay within one specific style. Because why stay in one box when you can mix the best of styles?

Rural industrial; with hard and soft materials in your interior

In our current interior I use a number of industrial cabinets such as a sideboard as above (used as a beverage and glass cabinet). But also a bakery cupboard (used as a DIY stash cupboard) and two more cupboards made of steel and scrap wood. I think they are all equally beautiful, even if they don't look fantastic at the moment due to the renovations 😉 . They are completely to my taste; industrial.

Still, as I said, I also really like cosiness and I would like to achieve that with soft materials and lots of plants in the house. I really like an interior like the one below. It radiates a lot of heat, but also has some very sleek elements in it. We will implement every room that we are going to redecorate in our new house in that kind of style.

A tough romantic look with a rural-industrial interior

If you have a partner with whom you have to arrange your love nest in consultation, it can sometimes become quite a challenge. Does your love love to be snug, but do you prefer it tight? Or vice versa? Don't worry. You can easily combine styles with each other. Just pay attention!

A rural industrial interior is actually the perfect combination, if you ask me. You combine tough industrial and warm rural. And that results in a surprisingly nice overall picture! Looking for inspiration? Then you're in the right place.

'n Rural interior with industrial touch

This interior style is actually a combination of two other designs, which you can mix nicely. Below you can see what the styles are characterized by.

A rural-interior:

  • has a natural look
  • is also characterized by natural materials such as wood and stone
  • consists of calm colors such as green, gray and off-white
  • doesn't have to be tight. Raw materials are used and many accessories

An industrial design:

  • has a tough, robust appearance
  • is characterized by 'chilly' materials such as steel, but which are combined with natural materials such as wood and stone
  • can be combined with many colors, but will never become a colorful fair. Black is common in industrial design, and also gives that cool look.

Especially if you now have either a rural or an industrial interior, you can easily add items or 'play' with accessories to make it a more combined style. Think of different lamps, or, for example, a new cupboard. But a different color on the wall can also do a lot! Before you get the paint rollers out of the shed:we have listed some inspiration for you.

How do you create a rural-industrial interior?

Let the party begin:it's time to get started with the furnishing! First make sure that the 'base' is in place. So no too brightly colored walls. Also think about your interior doors. Steel look doors immediately create a cool industrial look. Is that all getting a bit too drastic for you? Then you can also get started with furniture and accessories.

Combining furniture, industrial and rural

The nice thing about a rural industrial interior is that you can combine wonderfully. Combine lovely, fine metal chairs with robust wooden chairs. Or put woolly plaids on it. Choose items with a rural look, and then combine them with tough and robust. You can't really go wrong with this and you will see that you recognize things better and better that fit this style.

It is also nice to go for a real eye-catcher, such as an industrial cabinet from the photo at the top of the blog or the cable reel table from below. You can then adjust the further furnishing accordingly. You can of course further style your eye-catcher with beautiful accessories.

Accessories for a rural-industrial interior

What should in any case not be missing in this interior style is green. And then you don't necessarily have to go for green accessories. But put some plants down. Candles and wooden items also fit in well with the overall picture, as do soft cushions or a sheepskin.

Finally, take a look at your lighting. By changing it you can also give your interior a completely different look. Do you have a romantic rural interior that you would like to make a little more cool? Then style it all with industrial hanging lamps and cool accessories.
