Living in compact spaces under 14 square meters is a reality for many in bustling cities like New York, where even modest rentals must meet a minimum of 9 square meters. Creating a comfortable, stylish home in such tight quarters can be challenging—but actor Anthony Triolo proves it's possible with ingenuity and design savvy.
In 2010, Triolo, who holds a degree in architecture before pursuing acting, rented a 14-square-meter apartment in Manhattan's upscale Upper West Side. "It was the only apartment I found that wasn't a scam. The rent was low, it was clean, and the bathroom had just been renovated," he shared with NY Magazine.
Though the rent was a steal, the outdated decor left much to be desired. Drawing on his architectural expertise, Triolo reimagined the space with smart optimizations. He custom-designed a sleek ladder to access his elevated bed, installed sturdy iron shelves, and incorporated multifunctional storage boxes throughout. The transformation is remarkable, turning a cramped rental into an envy-worthy retreat.
Originally a short-term stay, Triolo has called this "tiny apartment" home for over six years and has no plans to leave. His before-and-after photos have garnered widespread admiration on Instagram, inspiring thousands with practical small-space ideas.
