Even with unprecedented time spent at home this year due to restrictions, more than three-quarters of Dutch people (78%) eagerly look forward to returning home. In fact, one-third (32%) have developed a deeper appreciation for their living spaces thanks to the lockdown. These findings come from a comprehensive Luxaflex survey. So, what truly creates that authentic sense of home?
Privacy and Security as Top Priorities
The study reveals that feeling safe and private is paramount. Nearly half (45%) rank security as a key factor for a true home feeling, while one-third prioritize privacy.
Men Value Internet and Electronics More
Preferences differ by gender. Women place slightly higher importance on safety (49% vs. 41% for men), but men emphasize reliable internet and electronics (43%).
Interior Comfort Matters, Especially for Women
A welcoming interior is crucial too. Men favor comfort (31%) over style (21%), while women value both comfort (35%) and stylish design (31%) a bit more.
Natural Light, Outdoor Spaces, and Personal Touches
Other essentials include pleasant surroundings (24%), inviting outdoor areas (24%), abundant natural light (22%), and personal items like photos and artwork (19%). The home's architecture—new build or character property—matters least.
