As my previous apartment grew too cramped, I upgraded to a spacious house. The move was smooth, and next up was installing my washing machine—a game-changer for laundry efficiency.
In my old apartment, space constraints confined the washer to the bathroom. Now, with an unused storage room available, I transformed it into a dedicated laundry space. Positioned far from the bedroom, it eliminates noise disturbances, allowing washes anytime.
To make it fully functional, I needed plumbing upgrades: drainage and water supply. My landlord enthusiastically approved, and a skilled plumber completed the job in days. I added a drying rack (no dryer yet) and a compact ironing station with an ironing board for seamless laundry management.
For studios or small apartments lacking storage, the bathroom is often the go-to spot for compact washers under 60 cm wide. In my old building, the basement was an alternative, but trekking from the top floor was impractical.
A bathroom setup shines in convenience: strip down for a shower, toss clothes straight into the hamper. High humidity ensures good ventilation, but maintain at least 60 cm clearance from showers or tubs. I maximized space by placing mine under a tall cabinet; stack a dryer on top if needed.
Beyond laundry rooms and bathrooms, kitchens and garages work well. Friends integrated theirs into the kitchen under the countertop amid other appliances—keeping the bathroom a serene retreat from noise.
During new builds, pre-plan plumbing locations. For garages, ensure they're enclosed and insulated. Out of sight, they won't disrupt decor and handle laundry discreetly.
