Do you have a beautiful silk scarf?
It's very pretty but fragile, and we don't know how to maintain it without damaging it.
Because silk is a noble material that requires the greatest attention when washing.
So already no machine washing, because the silk threads can get caught on another garment (zipper) or in the drum.
Fortunately, there is a simple trick to wash your Hermès scarf by hand without damaging it and thus revive the colors.
Just wash it with a little mild shampoo . Watch:
- mild shampoo
- basin
- 2 terry towels
- white vinegar
- Put cold water in the basin or the sink with a dab of shampoo.
- Immerse the silk scarf in this mixture and let it soak for a few minutes.
- Change the water to rinse with clear water with a little white vinegar to make the silk shiny and the colors stronger.
- Wring out the scarf roughly without forcing.
- Put it in a towel to wring it out without damaging the fibers or creasing them.
- Dry the scarf flat on a dry towel.
- Above all, do not extend it with clothespins. It deforms the fabric and leaves marks on the darts.
- Also avoid leaving it in the sun which makes the colors dull.
- Iron your Hermès square inside out when it is still damp and at low temperature.
- Do not wet the fabric with the jet of the iron, as the silk may warp.
- Finish by lightly ironing the right side of the scarf.
And There you go ! Your silk scarf is now like new :-)
Easy, fast and efficient, right?
With this technique, there is no risk of damaging the fibers of the silk or relaxing the scarf.
It remains as beautiful as the first day.
You can wash your scarf regularly with peace of mind.
- Hand wash
- No chlorine
- Do not tumble dry
- Gentle iron
Also avoid detergents with bleaching agents or too aggressive.
Always use a mild shampoo to avoid damaging fragile fibres.
Obviously, this washing technique works for all brands of silk scarves:Burberry, Zadig &Voltaire, Yves Saint Laurent, Galeries Lafayette, Gucci...
