We moved a year ago into a solid house, but I couldn't resist adding my personal touch. Twelve months and countless DIY projects later, it's truly our home. I stick to small, high-impact changes—think Ikea hacks and fresh wall colors—rather than major overhauls. These tweaks make a big difference without overwhelming my busy schedule.
DIY isn't just about saving money; it's about crafting spaces we love even more. As a seasoned DIYer, here are my standout projects from the past year, drawn from hands-on experience in our home.
We've transformed no fewer than 7 Ikea pieces! From spice racks reborn as bookshelves to cupboards turned guest beds, these hacks are fun, affordable, and straightforward. My proudest: a custom walk-in closet from PAX cabinets, a dining bench with STUVA storage boxes, and a dormer window nook using MALM cabinets. These upgrades maximized storage and style effortlessly.
Cooking is my creative outlet, especially quick snacks amid mom life. Rocky Road variations are a go-to—the Rainbow version stole the show for its festive look, making it the ideal Father's Day gift. Simple ingredients, big smiles.
With thousands of family photos stored digitally, I skip traditional albums for custom prints from our home printer. Highlights include Christmas ornaments with holiday snaps and a heartfelt wall heart shaped from cherished memories. These personal touches bring stories to life.
For my blog, I curate monthly themed quote lists—a fun feature that took off. Christmas, Sinterklaas, and autumn editions get the most love, especially with my autumn photography. Upcoming: tea-themed texts and King's Day specials. These add inspiration and personality anywhere.
Nothing refreshes a room like paint—I've wielded the brush often this year. My boldest: son Eli's nursery, painted in Flexa’s 2019 Color of the Year, Spiced Honey, with pink accents for a vintage bohemian vibe. It's now my favorite spot, cozy and vibrant as envisioned.
More projects await: stripping carpet from the stairs for painting, a kitchen refresh, and attic tweaks. DIY fuels my passion!
