One is very much looking forward to it and the other can't wait for it to come to that. Everyone experiences moving in a different way and is looking for moving tips to make it easier for themselves and less stressful. Our move was less than a year ago and it is still clearly in my memory. I thought it was fantastic to move to our new house in the countryside, but I was also worried about the move. What about all the rubbish we've collected in recent years?

Moving without stress; moving tips to make it as easy as possible

Friends of ours moved a few months ago. I already knew that we would not succeed in such a structured way as they have tackled it all. No matter how structured we are in our work, our private life leaves something to be desired in terms of structure. Our biggest challenge was actually that we passed in one day with our new house and our old house. Our new house has a large shed and the previous residents allowed us to move stuff there two weeks in advance. Ideal, but hardly anyone has that option, of course, that was really lucky. In the moving tips below you can see, among other things, how you can tackle that problem!

1. Pack in advance (score boxes at the supermarket)

It is of course smart to pack a lot of things in boxes before you move. Give the boxes a color label so that when you move it is recognizable where the box can be placed in the new house. Don't have enough boxes in stock yet? Check the supermarkets weekly and take a few boxes with you every time.

2. Stuff in storage in advance

It is also very useful to put a lot of stuff in storage beforehand. You can do this, for example, with storage space at Kubox. They deliver a box to you, you can fill it yourself and then it will be collected and stored in storage until you can use it again in the new house.

The above is one of the moving tips if you do not have a warehouse available. In addition, this is very useful if your transfer of the houses is on the same day. Only put things in storage that you do not need on a daily basis.

3. Moving tips number 3:Measure larger furniture

Make a list of your larger furniture and put the sizes behind it. Then see in which rooms you want to place which furniture. Check the route that must be walked with the furniture and check whether the furniture fits through the stairwell, for example. Or maybe they have to go through the window? If you start with this moving tip in advance, you know exactly how to handle this when moving, and that results in a lot less stress.

4. Babysitting for the children?

Are your children a bit older? Then they can lend a hand during the move by, for example, bringing their own belongings with them and taking them to their rooms. With smaller children, it might be useful to take them to grandparents' house. Do they have a nice day and you are not always interrupted in between.

5. Make a checklist

Number 5 of the moving tips can be done well in advance. Make a moving checklist. What all needs to be done? And I'm not just talking about the lugging, but also your insurance, changes of address and gas, water and light. For example, in this government blog, you can also read about passing on changes of address to municipalities. Did you know that the municipality can fine you if you do not notify important changes in time?

6. Pack your bags

It is handy to pack your suitcases anyway, so you save on cardboard boxes again 😉 , but it is actually mainly intended to ensure that you have all the necessary things together in a suitcase. Just pretend you're going on vacation. Everything in your suitcase is all you need for the next week, right?

7. Book a van or arrange a moving company

We moved everything ourselves and that was easy to do. Charter some family and friends because you can always use help. Are you moving yourself? Then arrange a van and do it on time! We had a van with a hydraulic tailgate. Super easy, you don't have to lift anything in it but drive it on the flap and then lift it into the truck. You can drive these trucks with your B driving license. If you live in a large city such as Amsterdam, the question is whether you can also park such a truck in front of your new home. The advantage of Kubox in this is that such a container saves you the parking problems!

8. packing books in suitcases; one of the better moving tips

Do you have any suitcases left? If it's suitcases on wheels, then this is one of the better moving tips. Use these cases for your books! Books are so incredibly heavy… if you pack them in boxes, the box will tear quickly and in addition, carrying them around is very bad for your back. You can easily roll the suitcases with books into your new home!

9. Indispensable:the hand cart

This was indispensable for us and probably for you too. A hand cart does not have to be that expensive, but it is well worth the money if you are moving yourself. For example, you can drive your washing machine all the way through the street if you have to.

10. Tape drawers and doors closed

Are you going to lug around cupboards yourself? Make sure all drawers and doors are taped shut. In any case, this ensures that you keep your fingers.

Of course there are many more moving tips you can think of, but you can already get started with these. I wish you good luck with carrying and lots of living pleasure in your new home!
