Stunning Rail Spotlights: Elevating Our Kitchen with Industrial Style and Smart Lighting

A few years ago, I struggled to find lamps that truly excited me for any room—living room, kitchen, or hallway. Things have changed dramatically, and I've discovered several fixtures I absolutely love for our home, including the new rail-mounted spotlights in our kitchen. Let me share our choices, the installation process, and why they're perfect.

The most beautiful spots in the kitchen are hanging on a rail!

Has my taste evolved, or is the market simply offering more stylish options now? In our old house, we had basic recessed spotlights above the dining table and a few wall-mounted ones over the countertop. For our current kitchen, I wanted something far more striking.

We're blending industrial style with subtle boho elements throughout our open-plan living and kitchen area. Exposed steel beams and sleek steel interior doors set the tone, complemented by a concrete dining table and matching pendant lights. The kitchen itself stays white with a dark countertop for a calm vibe in our narrow 3-meter-wide space—I'm glad we skipped black cabinets, as they'd feel too dark.

To amp up the industrial edge without a full overhaul, we added rail spotlights from Railspot.

Spotlights on a rail in the kitchen

I sought tough, industrial-style spots—not standard round ones, but sleek black squares. After renovating with a new plasterboard ceiling, we rerouted electrics for flexibility, ditching the central ceiling light in favor of targeted spots over the countertop and hood area.

Railspot's Kuby GU10 caught my eye immediately. Their team provided expert guidance on layout despite my online order.

To the showroom or order online?

Though a showroom visit wasn't feasible, online support was outstanding. I shared kitchen photos and ideas; they refined the rail design, spot count, and components promptly.

These spots ensure bright, shadow-free task lighting for prep work like chopping vegetables—positioned 30 cm from walls on all sides. A simple sketch helped calculate rail lengths, custom-cut by Railspot for ease.

Once the kitchen was prepped (wall removed, hood updated, plastered), installation was straightforward. My husband mounted the rails quickly, wired them from two ceiling points, and we clicked in the spots. I positioned them for direct countertop illumination and indirect wall glow for ambiance. Useful smart-lighting with Philips Hue

We integrated Philips Hue for automation: spots activate around 8:30 pm (adjusted seasonally). Paired with Google Home, voice commands like 'OK Google, kitchen lighting on' work seamlessly, even on gloomy days.
