Featured in Lidl's catalog for the week of August 11 to 17, these mini palm trees stand 40cm tall and cost only €6.99. Choose from three varieties: the Cycas from Japan's Nansei and Ryūkyū Islands plus China's coast; the Livistona, or fan palm, with its distinctive circular green fronds; and the Zamioculcas, a low-maintenance favorite prized for its sleek form and foliage.
Palm trees are remarkably low-fuss, drought-tolerant plants. Young ones need a bit more attention: for ground-planted palms, water regularly and generously during hot spells in their first two years, without overdoing it. In pots, keep soil moist but never soggy. Prune at late spring into early summer, removing only dry fronds from the trunk.
