As seasoned horticulturists with years of experience nurturing orchids, we know these elegant plants are favorites for good reason. But getting watering right is key to helping them thrive. Though low-maintenance overall, orchids have high water needs. Follow our proven advice to maintain their stunning beauty as an ornamental flower.
Water abundantly when the substrate feels dry. Check by inserting a finger about 2 cm deep. During the flowering period, water once a week. For potted orchids, do this only when roots turn gray and dull.
To water orchids effectively, choose the right water source. Many plants fail due to improper choices. Avoid tap water—orchids, like us, dislike hard water. Instead, use rainwater, reverse osmosis water, or filtered jug water. Mist only the foliage and roots with a spray bottle or mister. This promotes healthy growth and magnificent flowers!
