Urban residents have reported lower satisfaction with their living situations since the COVID-19 pandemic compared to those in rural areas. However, there's no sign of a mass exodus to the countryside yet. Funda’s latest research reveals these shifts, even though only one in ten respondents say the crisis has changed their housing preferences.
Living space and gardens now top priorities The pandemic and its restrictions have amplified the importance of home size and outdoor areas. Apartment dwellers, in particular, express lower satisfaction than homeowners.
Togetherness trumps solitude
Despite spending more time at home with family or roommates during lockdowns, most Dutch households remain positive. Those living with others report higher satisfaction than solo dwellers. That said, multi-person households increasingly crave an extra room for privacy and flexibility.
Remote work's limited impact
A majority anticipate working from home more long-term post-pandemic. Yet, this hasn't significantly altered overall housing satisfaction or the emphasis on commute distances to offices.
