Score cheap furniture as a student

When you first move out of your home as a student in your teens or as a young adult and move into a room or apartment, you probably have few things left. It is therefore a pretty expensive time the first weeks or months that you are away from home. Then of course you want to buy your things as cheaply as possible, so that you do not have a negative number in your bank account at the end of the month. The following tips will help you with this.

Find cheap stores

Of course it makes sense that if you want to save some money you don't just go to luxury furniture stores. It is therefore wise to consider that stores such as IKEA have a wide range of cheap furniture, and that you should therefore be able to shop here. Thrift stores are also ideal if you are looking for cheap furniture. With a little attention or some paint you can go a long way. Second-hand furniture is a smart thing to buy anyway, because you can save a lot of money on items that are actually as good as new. For example, do a search on Marktplaats, or ask friends or family if they have things they want to get rid of.

Do the important thing first

It is smart that, if you are on a budget, get the most important items first, such as a refrigerator, wardrobe, desk and some seating areas. Things like plants or decorations can always be picked up later. So make sure that you always have this base first, and then you can look at how much money you can still spend on fun things like room decoration and extra storage space.

Be creative

Of course you don't always have to buy ready-made furniture and home decoration. You can get there with a little creative thinking. For example, you can make a desk yourself with two drawers on which you place a table top. And you can make a nice bed with some pallets and a jar of white or black paint. And if you are a bit handy with paint and brushes, you can paint beautiful frames for the wall yourself. You can of course also ask that one handy friend of yours. Be creative and make things useful or useful, so you save a lot of money and it's also a lot of fun.
