April chill persists
As seasoned gardeners know, tender plants protected through winter—whether under frost fleece, straw mulch, or with leaves secured by twine—now need to breathe. Fresh shoots risk rotting if kept confined without light. Remove protections as soon as conditions allow, enabling healthy growth and airflow.
Late frosts remain a threat, capable of damaging new growth. Yet, unseen rot from enclosure can devastate the entire plant beyond recovery.
Observation is key: monitor the thermometer while assessing plant vitality under covers.
