When renovating or building a home, standard window sizes simplify the process if they're not custom-made. As seasoned construction professionals, we rely on these proven dimensions for efficiency and compliance.
Carpentry manufacturers across the industry adhere to uniform standards for window sizes. These guidelines, set by building experts, streamline installations, replacements, and renovations. Opting for standard sizes ensures easy availability, optimal placement, and ample natural light to cut energy costs. They also align with the 2012 thermal regulations (RT 2012), which mandate bay windows cover at least 1/6 of the living area's surface.
Dimensions are given in centimeters (width x height).
Single-leaf windows measure 75 cm wide by 60 cm high. Two-leaf options come in 115 cm, 125 cm, or 135 cm wide by 100 cm high, or 125 cm or 135 cm wide by 120 cm high.
Bay windows are larger: two-leaf models include 215 x 180 cm, 215 x 210 cm, or 215 x 240 cm.
Patio doors vary too. Single-leaf classics are 250 cm high by 60 cm or 80 cm wide. Two-leaf versions measure 215 cm high by 100 cm or 120 cm wide.
Beyond standards, specialized options fit unique needs. In bathrooms or toilets, square windows prevail—ranging from compact 40 x 40 cm to 60 x 60 cm.
For hallways or small rooms, elongated windows at 60 cm wide by 100 cm high provide ideal light without overwhelming the space.
Standard sizes offer cost savings, simplicity, and quick sourcing—perfect for most projects. However, for distinctive architecture or site-specific challenges, custom windows deliver precision. Tailor dimensions, materials, finishes, colors, and styles to your vision for a truly personalized home.
