Setting up your new dimmer switch is straightforward in the Hue app.

Open the Hue app, tap the Settings icon in the top right, scroll to Accessory setup, and hit Add accessory in the bottom right. Select Hue Dimmer Switch and choose Option 1 for a new device. For a used switch or reconfiguration, pick Option 2.

Pull the plastic tab from the switch, then use a paperclip to press the pairing button on the back. When the LED blinks, your Hue Bridge will detect and pair it effortlessly.
After pairing, a virtual dimmer appears, mirroring the physical buttons: typically On, Dim Up, Dim Down, and Off.
You can't disable buttons, but the On button supports up to five actions via short and long presses.

For the On button, tap Where to select up to two rooms (not individual lights). Under First Press, customize actions like specific white tones or 'previous state'—options are basic but effective.

Each press type can trigger unique behaviors within these limits. Use Reset or Delete at the bottom only for relocating or selling. Tap Done to save.
The stock app is solid, but third-party tools unlock true power. For iOS users, iConnectHue (a paid app) transforms your dimmer and more: smart groups, timers, animations.
