Peanut-Free Pad Thai Recipe: Allergy-Safe Thai Classic with Tofu
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup chopped white onion
- 3 tablespoons minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 1 package flat rice noodles
- 1 package cubed firm tofu
- 1 cup bean sprouts
- 1 egg
Sauce Ingredients
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup hot sauce
- 2 tablespoons fish sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 3 tablespoons sunflower seed spread
Garnish
- Lime
- Cilantro
- Mint
- Chopped green onions
Instructions
- Sauté onion and garlic in olive oil until the onion is translucent. Add tofu and brown on both sides. Set aside.
- Boil the noodles in a pot of water until soft.
- Mix the sauce ingredients together.
- Add the noodles and bean sprouts to the same saucepan with the onion, garlic, and tofu.
- Crack the egg into the pan and stir until cooked. Add the sauce and toss to coat. Serve with lime wedges, fresh herbs, chopped green onions, and extra fish sauce if desired.
