Ceiling covering:what solutions, what costs?

Paneling, tiles or plasterboard, there is a range of solutions intended to dress a ceiling. The choice is made according to the desired aesthetic result, the budget and the thermal performance sought.

Plasterboards

Plasterboard is a hit in the construction industry. Intended to structure the ceiling, they provide a very large number of advantages. In addition to the quality of finish offered, they guarantee excellent thermal and acoustic performance.

Similarly, plasterboard can hide a damaged surface of steel, wood or concrete. Another argument in favor of this coating is its adaptability to different situations and supports. It is possible to fix it on added wooden cleats or on joists and rafters. With the help of self-drilling screws, the plasterboard can also be fixed to the furring strips of a metal frame. Apart from the many possible installation methods, plasterboard stands out by displaying an affordable price:a 2.50 m x 1.20 m plate costs on average 8 euros.

Ceiling tiles

Completely renovating a ceiling is particularly expensive. This is why, while waiting to have the budget, many people choose to lay ceiling tiles. Concealing a damaged ceiling, peeling plaster or flaking paint, this solution appeals for its excellent quality/price ratio. A 50 x 50 cm slab of molded polystyrene, for example, costs only 2 euros each. In addition to its economic side, this coating offers appreciable decorative qualities.

Due to its lightness, it is also easy to install and the use of a glue technique is enough to put it in place. On the market there are different types of slabs that are distinguished above all by their material. The most common being polystyrene, which comes in several decors and models. Polyurethane tiles are also offered by manufacturers. They are more expensive but guarantee unparalleled aesthetics. These slabs are also sold with moldings most of the time.

The paneled ceiling

In order to offer a natural style to interiors, a ceiling covered with wood paneling is an excellent alternative. This coating is made from several types of wood which each time give a specific rendering. Ash is renowned for its elegance, while oak is more warm and noble. The fir tree gives it a rustic style.

In interiors subject to humidity, choosing wood paneling is advisable. These can be installed in two ways:by nailing them or by using clips. The first fastening system consists of using headless nails inserted into the groove using a nail set or a hammer. The second type of fixing is simpler and faster. Simply fit the tiles together using a clip system. On the price side, it depends above all on the finish and the species chosen. It is necessary to plan a budget of at least 15 euros per m².
