At what temperature should a duvet be washed?

This is a question I have asked myself many times.

In fact, every time I have to wash a yellowed or stained duvet...

You too ? Well, know that the answer is not so simple.

So in order not to damage it and keep it like new for as long as possible...

1. At what temperature to wash a feather or down duvet?

At what temperature should a duvet be washed (so as not to damage it)?

Feather and down duvets are certainly the warmest.

They are perfect for spending a warm winter, without spending too much on heating in the bedroom.

In fact, they are generally three times warmer than synthetic ones.

The other side of the coin is that their maintenance is a little more complicated.

Why?

Quite simply because their padding is more fragile.

But the good news is that you can put them in the washing machine to wash them at home.

The first instinct is to read the washing label carefully to find out the recommendations.

In general, it is advisable to choose a program that is not too hot at 30°C or 40°C maximum.

Avoid going overboard, as a program that is too hot damages the natural fibres.

And watch out for the spin! It is better to choose a short spin.

2. And a synthetic duvet?

At what temperature should a duvet be washed (so as not to damage it)?

The basic rule is to always check the washing recommendations on the labels.

But we must admit that washing a synthetic or polyester duvet is easier.

You can put them directly in your washing machine.

Then, all you have to do is choose a program at 40°C or 60°C .

Know that a program at 60°C is ideal for eliminating dust mites.

For people allergic to dust mites, it is very useful!

But even before choosing the washing program temperature, a first question arises!

Can you put your duvet in your washing machine?

What washing machine capacity does it take to wash your duvet?

At what temperature should a duvet be washed (so as not to damage it)?

Let's be reassured right away!

It is quite possible to wash a duvet in a washing machine.

But still be careful.

It all depends of course on its size and the capacity of your washing machine .

It shouldn't be too big for the capacity of your washing machine.

It is very important to check that your washing machine can withstand such washing.

Why?

Because duvets absorb a lot of water during washing.

They therefore become very heavy and their volume increases considerably.

Your washing machine is therefore at risk of being overloaded.

And there, it is the assured breakdown.

The washing program will stop dead...

And you'll end up with a half-rinsed, waterlogged duvet.

Not cool...

Not to mention that the washing machine may need to be repaired.

So how do you know if you can wash it in your washing machine, you ask me?

It's quite simple.

The drum must be 3/4 full , no more.

It is the ideal filling for effective washing and good rinsing.

In concrete terms, you have to be able to fit it into the drum of the machine effortlessly.

On the other hand, always check this point to know if the capacity of your machine is sufficient:

- a 140x200 cm duvet can be washed in a washing machine with a capacity of 7 kg minimum .

- a 200x200 cm duvet can be washed in a washing machine with a capacity of 8 kg minimum .

What if it doesn't fit in the machine? How?

If it is larger or if the capacity of your washing machine is insufficient...

It is better to go to a laundromat.

There are washing machines with a larger capacity.

There is always at least one washing machine with a capacity of 10 kg.

It's still easier than washing your duvet by hand, isn't it?
