Winter colors and fabrics for a cozy sitting area in your living room

Add warm colors and fabrics to your interior in winter. Style your sofa and swivel armchairs with fluffy cushions in winter colors such as gold and brown tones, burgundy red and terracotta. Put a nice thick carpet under the couch and get a pile of fleece blankets at home; so the whole family can curl up under their own blanket. It sure is cozy! Below you can see the difference in color cushions and sofa where the left gives a more wintery and warm feeling.

If you want a carpet that also has an extra cozy look in winter, choose a woolen rug. Now a wool rug can be quite expensive, but our rug comes from IKEA, for example. Very affordable and beautiful design!

And are you a real cold-blooded person? Then consider a Stoov heating pad for your couch. Super handy to charge in advance and then wirelessly enjoy a nice warm pillow in your back.

Tip:Do you want a sofa that will show off in both winter and summer? Then go for a soothing color, where you can quickly create a new look in your living room that fits perfectly with the season by using accessories in your seating area.

Mood lighting, think of dimmable lighting

One is fed up with it, the other is crazy about it; the lights can be turned on early in the winter. Go for atmospheric wall lamps to light up dark corners. Always make sure that you buy lights with warm white light – which you can preferably also dim. White light in winter is often very uninviting! Place a pair of beautiful candlesticks on the windowsill and a bowl full of tea lights on the coffee table.

Are you not yet able to arrange so much with your current lighting? Then consider Philips Hue lamps. We have decorated our entire house with this so that we can easily control all lamps with our Google Home. Not only on switching on and off, but also on the color of the light and whether they should be dimmed or not by default. For example, we always keep the lighting dimmed in the sitting area in the living room and we have the spotlights a bit brighter in the kitchen so that we have sufficient light at the counter.

Work with prints on the wall, give your wall in the living room a color or use wood in the sitting area

For example, you can choose to give the wall behind your sitting area in the living room a warm color towards the winter. This is how we have a black concrete look on the wall. Very cozy and less 'cold'. Exactly what you are looking for in winter.

A cool wallpaper with a print behind your couch is also very cool, of course. With this you break with the standard white walls and immediately add warmth to your living room and sitting area.

What you see more and more nowadays are the wall panels made of wood. The slatted wall as we call it home here. I made slats on one of our kitchen cabinets to get a warmer look (see photo above), but you could also opt for slats behind your sofa. And that doesn't have to be across the entire wall, but just 1.5 meters wide, for example. Looks immediately cozy.

Extra atmosphere with a bit of retro, an heirloom or recycled product

Do you think the seating area in your living room could use some extra atmosphere? Then consider adding a retro or vintage cabinet, for example. Or put an heirloom in your living room or get a cool copy from the thrift store. Furniture with a story behind it also immediately creates more atmosphere in your living room.

Whether or not a fireplace in your living room near the sitting area?

Well, this may not be something you can change one two three. But, don't worry. If you don't have a real fireplace or gas fireplace in your sitting area, you can always go for an electric fireplace in your living room. Or a bio ethanol fireplace. Nowadays you have very cool variants here that really add extra atmosphere without perhaps giving a lot of heat immediately.

Candles, candles, candles

Of course, candles in the living room should not be missing. You can quickly make your seating area cozier by adding some candlesticks in different heights and placing some tea lights. Don't be shy, you can't quickly have too many candles, so do your thing. And don't you have enough candlesticks? Then take a look at the cycle. A lick of paint over it and you'll have a cool new candlestick in your room. Check my blog about black accessories in your home, I'll show you how I did that.
