A floral artist turns New York's trash cans into giant vases

You should never underestimate the power of flowers, capable of bringing life to a space that you were not looking at. A few months ago, we introduced you to Geoffrey Mottart, a floral art teacher who had given himself the mission of restoring the beauty of forgotten statues and busts in Brussels parks with compositions of colored roses. The artist now has his American counterpart in the person of Lewis Miller, also a floral artist, who also strives to bring a touch of freshness and cheerfulness to a gloomy environment. It is in the city of New York that the man rages, giant flowers under his arm, and decorates public squares, sidewalks and above all... street trash cans! His project, titled Flower Flashes (des Éclairs de Fleurs en VF), aims to transform these mundane objects destined to receive rubbish into giant vases.

Recycled flowers

“Giving flowers to the people of New York is something I've been thinking about for several years. I hope to elicit smiles, those that appear when we find ourselves faced with kind and free attention. That's my goal, to create an emotional response through flowers “, writes the artist on his site. The giant bouquets made up of very colorful dahlias, roses and orchids contrast perfectly with the urban greyness. Lewis Miller, who owns his floral design and decoration company, collects plants ordered for events. “So we give these flowers a second life “, he explains to the site My Modern Met . And when you know that certain compositions reinstalled in the Manhattan district can cost up to 10,000 dollars, there is something to smile about when you pass by! We let you admire the sublime work of the artist, who also redecorates statues and sculptures. Magic!
