DIY Recycled Aluminum Can Flowers: Eco-Friendly Craft Tutorial
Required Materials and Tools
- Heavy-duty scissors or tin snips
- Colorful aluminum beverage cans
- Brad fasteners (envelope closures)
- Awl
- Hammer
- Metal rods or wooden dowels
- Non-permanent marker
- Steel wool
- Hot glue gun
- Fine-gauge wire
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Wash empty cans thoroughly and let them dry. Use heavy-duty scissors or tin snips to remove the top and bottom, creating a flat rectangular aluminum sheet.
- Lay the sheet flat with the interior (shiny) side up. Sketch two flower shapes—one larger than the other—with a non-permanent marker. Cut them out and smooth edges with steel wool to remove burrs and sharpness.
- Stack the shapes and punch a center hole using an awl and hammer. Thread a brad fastener through, splay the prongs on the back, and secure with hot glue. Bend petals for a realistic, dimensional look.
- Attach the flower to a rod or dowel by threading fine-gauge wire through the fastener and wrapping it firmly around the stem end.
