15 Spring Cleaning Hacks

Spring is one of the most important cleaning times for most people, who use the time to clean up and tackle those DIY projects they've left behind all winter. So here are 15 tips to help you get the most out of spring cleaning.

1. To clean your kitchen tiles, put some ammonia in a bucket of water. With a sponge you can easily remove the grease and stains from the tiles.

2. Take glass lampshades, ceiling fans and chandeliers and put them in the dishwasher. They come out sparkling clean and it's less work for your tired hands.

3. To help children clean the bathroom, have them clean the sink and tub with baking soda and vinegar. The kids love the fizz and it makes the sink and bath sparkling clean.

4. When you find rust rings or marks left by appliances on your floor, scrub gently with a solution of Coke and coarse salt. Rinse thoroughly. It effectively removes the rust without ruining the shine.

5. Do you have annoying water stains on your faucet and sink? Cut a lemon in half and use it to scrub stainless steel. It also makes your kitchen smell fresh and citrusy.

6. Is the microwave dirty? Clean it the easy way by mixing two tablespoons of white vinegar with water and swirling for 5 minutes. It makes for a shiny clean microwave that doesn't require scrubbing.

7. Reach cobwebs and dusty areas in high places by attaching a towel to a broom.

8. Clean your dishwasher by placing a cup of white vinegar on the top rack and mixing it up.

9. Clean shower heads by removing them and soaking them in white vinegar overnight.

10. Dust blinds with an old sock. First mix a solution of soap and water in a bucket, then run the sock over the dusty blinds.

11. Refresh plastic containers by adding a solution of dish soap, bleach and water and microwave them to boiling point. Once cooled, discard the water and rinse.

12. Breadcrumbs are difficult to reach in a toaster, but by using a baking brush you can easily wipe the crumbs away.

13. To remove dirt from vases, add a cup of uncooked rice, warm water and half a cup of glassex and mix. Your vase will be sparkling clean and ready for fresh flowers in no time.

14. If you have lampshades, you know the dust will stick to them. Use a dust roller to roll over the outside and inside of your lampshades.

15. Use Coke to clean the toilet. You've probably heard this one, but never tried it, right? It's a miracle cure, just pour Coke down the toilet bowl and flush for a sparkling result.
