Brighten your 2022 garden season with Happydendron, a groundbreaking rhododendron variety. Unlike traditional types with strict soil needs, this low-maintenance gem delivers lush green foliage year-round and a profuse burst of nectar-rich, tricolor flowers—white petals with purple borders and yellow centers—from May to June. An international award winner, it's debuting in the Netherlands this spring.
While most rhododendrons demand acidic soil, Happydendron thrives in nearly any nutrient-rich ground. Grafted on a lime-tolerant rootstock, its powerful roots absorb nutrients efficiently, producing a robust plant with abundant blooms.
Happydendron's distinctive May blooms dazzle in three colors: white petals framed by deep purple edges and a vivid yellow heart. Pink stamens add a fourth accent. Flowering extends to late June, attracting bumblebees and pollinators to its nectar-packed flowers.
Happydendron suits any garden size or pots on balconies and terraces, handling full sun or partial shade. For containers, ensure good drainage to avoid wet roots. Cold-hardy to -24°C, it stays evergreen in winter, sheltering birds and hedgehogs.
Care is minimal: water in dry heat, feed in April for optimal blooms, and prune spent flowers in July to tidy or shape.
Available from April at garden centers and online, starting at €30.00.
