Reviving Your Wilted Amaryllis: Proven Aftercare Steps for Next Season's Blooms

A gardener asks: What should I do with my wilted Amaryllis?

As with any bulbous potted plant after flowering, simply cut back the spent flower stem without touching the leaves. Once outdoor temperatures are mild enough, plant the bulb in the ground—leaves included, even if they're unsightly—and water in with organic fertilizer.

Stop watering once all leaves have dried completely. Leave hardy bulbs in place for next year's flowers. For tender ones like Amaryllis, dig up the bulbs and store them dry for repotting later.
