A wooden deck requires regular upkeep to preserve its natural beauty and longevity. As seasoned deck care professionals, we've outlined proven steps below to clean effectively without damaging the boards, restoring that vibrant shine.
Start with a specialized wood degreaser
Begin by applying a wood-specific degreaser to tackle dirt and gray buildup. Mix about 1 liter of degreaser with 1 liter of water, apply it, and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Scrub vigorously with a stiff broom, then rinse thoroughly using a garden hose for best results.

Follow up with a high-quality saturator to protect and nourish the wood, countering color fade over time. Opt for a high-protection saturator that creates a water-beading effect. Choose non-slip, non-oily formulas compatible with all wood types like teak, pine, rosewood, larch, bangkirai, and oak. For ongoing vibrancy and stain resistance, apply a concentrated cleaner once early and late in the season.
Perform maintenance once or twice yearly. A simple method involves a stiff brush, hose, or bucket of soapy water. Clean post-wet seasons, like before summer, to remove pollutants and debris from between boards. Delaying risks moss buildup and slippery surfaces.

Scrub thoroughly with a stiff brush, focusing on dull or slick spots and grooves. A pressure washer works too, but use moderate pressure from 50 cm away to avoid board damage.
Exposure to sun, water, and UV rays causes graying, but protective oils mitigate this. Apply once or twice yearly post-cleaning to delay graying and enhance natural color with a wet-look finish. Multiple coats ensure lasting results.

Avoid linseed oil, as it causes black marks. Steer clear of varnish, paint, or stain too—these film-forming products hinder wood's ability to breathe.
