Expert Guide: Automate Your Smart Home Devices Effortlessly with Stringify

Imagine glancing at your nightstand light to check the outdoor temperature or getting instant alerts if your teen exceeds the speed limit. With Stringify, these smart automations—and countless more—are just a tap away on your iOS device.

What is Stringify?

Launched in December 2015, Stringify simplifies connected living by automating your smart devices. Similar to IFTTT (The Ultimate Guide to IFTTT: Use the Web's Most Powerful Tool Like a Pro), it links apps and gadgets seamlessly. Unlike IFTTT's one-trigger-one-action limit, Stringify supports multiple actions per trigger. Recent updates allow sharing Flows with family, friends, or social media.

Plus, the app includes a ready-to-use Flow library—activate or tweak them instantly without starting from scratch.

Currently iOS-exclusive (Android version coming soon), download from the App Store, create a free account, and verify your email. The app features four key sections: Things, Flows, Control Shortcuts, and Discover.

Things include physical devices like Nest (7 Nest Automation Tricks to Cut Your Heating Bill in Half), Philips Hue (Philips Hue Alternatives That Are Really Worth It), Sonos, Fitbit, Misfit, and Netatmo (6 Smart Indoor Air Quality Monitors You Should Buy for Your Home). Digital Things cover Evernote, Twitter, Instagram, notifications, location, and email.

Adding Your Things

To connect devices, tap 'New' in the top-right of the Things screen. Browse physical and digital options, marked by color-coded buttons (Blue, Green, Orange, Purple). Select a Thing, tap 'Connect,' and authorize your account. They auto-appear in Things.

Flows range from simple (trigger + action) to advanced with 'Only If' conditions or multiple actions. Drag Things onto the canvas in sequence.

Examples:

  • Basic: At sunrise, get weather report.
  • Only If: At sunrise, get weather report—only if I'm home.
  • Multiple Actions: At sunrise, get weather and email it.

Control Shortcuts and Discover

Control Shortcuts pin key Things/Flows to your home screen for manual activation. Discover curates new Flows as compatibility grows—check regularly.
