If you're sweeping daily like I do in my home maintenance routine, your broom quickly collects crumbs, pet hair, dirt from kids, and more. Yet, who cleans the broom itself? It's essential—a dirty broom just redistributes dust.
Luckily, as a cleaning expert with years of hands-on experience, I've perfected a simple, effective method using white vinegar to restore your broom to like-new condition. Here's how in 8 straightforward steps:

- Bucket
- Vacuum cleaner
- 1 liter of white vinegar
- Hot water
- 2 tablespoons of washing-up liquid
1. Outside, tap the broom brush on a grid to dislodge large debris.
2. Vacuum the bristles thoroughly.

3. Rinse the brush under hot water.

4. Soak in a bucket of hot water, white vinegar, and dish soap.

5. Let soak for 20 minutes.
6. Rinse away all soap with warm water.
7. Soak again in hot water with 500 ml white vinegar.

8. Air dry in the sun.

Your broom is now spotless, sweeping efficiently without spreading dust. White vinegar costs under €1 per bottle, is eco-friendly, and saves you from buying replacements—proving time and money savings in my cleaning tests.
White vinegar naturally disinfects and degreases bristles, while dish soap cleans and conditions them for better dust capture. This method suits traditional brooms, push brooms, and mops. Forked bristles? Keep them—they trap dust better.
