How to Have Amazon Alexa Read Your Twitter Feed Aloud: Step-by-Step Guide

Since its launch, Amazon Echo has gained over 100 new features and skills, transforming everyday tasks. As a tech enthusiast with years of hands-on experience with smart home devices, I've tested countless Alexa integrations. One standout: having Alexa read your Twitter feed aloud using simple voice commands. Here's how to set it up and use it effectively.

Step 1

Open the Alexa app on your phone, tap Skills in the sidebar, search for Twitter Reader, and tap Enable. You'll be prompted to log in to your Twitter account.

Step 2

After signing in, interact with your Twitter account via Alexa. Try these voice prompts:

  • Alexa, open Twitter – Get an overview of how these skills work.
  • Alexa, ask Twitter what's going on? – Hear the first three tweets in your feed, including who posted them. Retweets are marked 'RT,' and hashtags as 'Hashtag.' Alexa offers to dive deeper into accounts or read more tweets.
  • Alexa, ask Twitter for trends – Discover top trending topics in your region. Say 'Tell me more about number X' for specifics on a trend.
  • Alexa, ask Twitter for trends in [Location] – Check trends in any city or area.
  • Alexa, ask Twitter about my mentions – Listen to your latest mentions.
  • Alexa, ask Twitter for my tweets – Hear your most recent posts.

Key notes: Bilingual tweets or non-Latin characters may not read properly. It's ideal for quick updates without screen time, though not a full Twitter replacement. To revoke access, go to Twitter Settings > Apps, find 'Twitter skill by Alexa,' and select Revoke access.
