How to arrange and decorate your garden?

Decorating a garden is not just a professional job. Anyone can do it if they have the right ideas. So how do you design your garden? Like a landscaper? It's all about organization.

We'll give you some tips here to help you get out of it.

Aesthetics above all

A garden, to be pleasant, must have a minimum of flowering plants and furniture. And if space allows, you can add shrubs. However, each element must be placed in the right place in order to take care of the aesthetics of your garden.

A lawn with a stone path and flowering plants on both sides, a shaded terrace on part of the garden, shrubs to be out of sight of passers-by. There are many possibilities that allow you to obtain a garden worthy of a great castle.

It is the same for the furniture, a garden furniture, a hammock, a parasol, deck chairs or many others. And one of the most original ideas that we practice today is to use a garden storage box. The advantage? It is decorative and functional at the same time. These chests exist in different sizes and shapes. Some allow you to store your tools and garden accessories. Others, in larger format, give you the possibility of storing a bike. You can find a storage chest here for example, the Jardideco shop and many others offer a very wide choice.

The goal is to have a well-organized garden, where each element finds its place. Whether it's furniture, plants or decorative and lighting accessories.

How to arrange and decorate your garden?

Make a plan before you start

Like a professional landscaper, you also need to draw up a plan before you start the work. Which requires you to make three distinct plans.

Start with a rough plan that reflects the dimensions of your garden and the layouts that can be made. Then goes through a basic plan that specifies the measurements and type of terrain for each space.

The third plan must present the elements that you are going to install on your garden, paths, terrace, hedges, pergolas. This plan, called the creation plan, will be used to imagine the position of the latter once installed. And a fourth plan, the planting plan, allows you to imagine the location of plant species.

These plans are essential to have an idea of the configuration of your garden from the start. They will serve as a guide during the layout.

Choosing plants suitable for your garden

The choice of plant species for your garden must be made according to the climate of your region. Likewise, it is important to follow the seasons to choose the appropriate plants. For each season, there are suitable seedlings. Thus, you can rotate according to the seasons to bring your garden to life continuously.

If you are looking for a plant to use as a hedge, opt for resistant plants such as yew or boxwood. Cypress and eleagnus are also among the most used. These two types of plants, however, grow rapidly. They therefore require periodic pruning. For a defensive and anti-intrusion hedge, nothing better than thorny plants, such as rose, barberry or holly.

There are also ground cover plants, suitable if you want to cover a large area. They are preferred for their ability to spread quickly over a field. This is for example the case of perennial geranium or bugles. Some, like the Delosperama Hot Pink, can also take over to decorate your garden when your plantations have passed the flowering season. In addition, these ground cover plants can control weeds.

The ideal is to choose plants that have a long flowering period, such as Cremissimo, Strawberry Blonde or Star Jasmine. Without forgetting to make a clever mix between flowering plants, those with resistant foliage and variegated plants. This mixture gives a green aspect in your garden throughout the successive seasons. It is also more interesting to choose a set of plants that bloom in different seasons.

Do not hesitate to use planters and pots as decoration, and to bring a colorful touch to your garden.

Selecting and arranging garden furniture correctly

The furniture also plays a decorative role for your garden. Reason why you have to choose it well.

Today, the materials used for the design of garden furniture are widely varied. Plastic, rattan, resin, wrought iron are examples. The choice is therefore vast.

Depending on the size of your garden, you can choose between minimalist models, made of iron for example, or resin lounges, which take up more space. Practicality is also a criterion to be taken into account. For light and easy to move furniture, we will opt for bamboo, plastic or wrought iron. With, you necessarily need a parasol or a pergola to protect them from the sun.

The color is also important so that the furniture is in harmony with the plants and decorative objects in your garden.

Be ingenious for exterior decoration

The decoration of your garden calls on all your creativity. You have to find innovative ideas, which above all work.

With this in mind, several techniques are used by landscapers and amateurs alike. Sculpt shrubs, revamp flower pots or use unusual objects instead (rain boots, old suitcases, tires, a chair), integrate water basins, create a green wall.

You can also structure your garden according to particular styles, English, Japanese, French, contemporary garden, city, natural or dry. Depending on the style you choose, you must follow a specific arrangement for furniture, plants and add particular decorative objects.

In a Japanese garden, there are, for example, lanterns, rocks or a fountain for decoration. The French garden is distinguished by its flowerbeds and bowling alley. So it's up to you to choose according to your tastes.

The addition of streetlights, lanterns or garlands is a plus. Apart from their function for lighting, they also create an original effect in your garden. Provided, of course, that you position them in the right place.
