Elegant DIY Haute Couture Paper Butterfly Necklace: Expert Step-by-Step Guide
Required Materials and Tools
- Checkered Paper Sewing Butterfly Kit
- Wax paper
- Tweezers
- Wire cutters
- Round nose pliers
- Toothpicks
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Cut out three butterflies from the kit.
- Using a brush and paper glue, adhere two butterflies together back-to-back.
- Cut three eye pins to 1" lengths. Apply paper glue to attach one pin to each wing of the third butterfly and one to the body, facing downward. Allow to dry for several minutes.
- Apply glue as in step 2 and attach the glued butterflies from step 2 to the pinned butterfly from step 3. Let dry for 10 minutes, then rinse the brush.
- Attach a large jewel just below the head using jewel glue. Gently shape and curl the wings with your fingers. Curve the antennae and glue one to each wing with paper glue. Allow to dry for several minutes.
- Apply three coats of paper stiffener to both the front and back of the butterfly using a brush. Place on wax paper to dry for 15 minutes between coats. Use toothpicks to clean excess stiffener from wing edges.
- Cut eye pins into 1" and 1-1/2" lengths. Thread a gold bead, a faceted bead, and another gold bead onto each. Attach to the lower eye loops on the butterfly, opening and closing with pliers.
- Measure and cut two 12" pieces of wire. Thread each through a wing loop, one at a time. Twist the wires together, attach a gold cord end to both, and secure with pliers.
- Apply jewel glue to the wire ends and insert into tube clasps. Repeat for the other side.
