Introduction

DIY Paper Carnations: Easy Tutorial with Cupcake Liners, Coffee Filters, or Cardstock

Two Styles of Paper Carnations

As experienced crafters, we've created these realistic paper carnations using two simple methods: layered cupcake liners (or coffee filters) for fluffy blooms, and spiraled white cardstock for a different texture.

Step 1

First Fold

Spray paint the white branches evenly and set them aside to dry completely. Fold a cupcake liner in half. (Coffee filters are a perfect substitute.)

Second Fold

Fold it once more for a tighter center.

Step 3

Shape the Petals

Twist the bottom of the liner—the top will start resembling half a carnation petal.

Step 4

Add More Layers

For fuller flowers, apply glue to the center of another matching liner, place the shaped center on top, grasp both at the base, and twist to secure.

Step 5

Build Fullness

Keep layering liners until you achieve the desired volume. Let the flower dry.

Step 6

Cardstock Flowers

Cut white cardstock into circles of varying sizes, then slice each into a spiral.

Step 7

Shape the Spirals

At the end of the spiral, loosen the paper slightly for a relaxed curl, add glue, and hold in place. Let dry.

Assemble the Arrangement

Once flowers and branches are dry, position branches in your vase first for perfect placement.

Attach Flowers

Adults should use a hot glue gun to secure flowers to branches. Apply glue to the flower base, hold upside down briefly to set, preventing drips. Kids can help decide placements.

Finalize Your Centerpiece

Add more flowers until satisfied. Enhance with glitter or by dipping petal tips in paint for extra flair.
