Create a stunning, eco-friendly paper bead necklace using scrap paper and basic tools. As someone who's crafted countless DIY jewelry pieces over the years, I love this project for its creativity and sustainability.
Colored wrapping or scrap paper (glossy works best)
Scissors
Bamboo skewers
Medium glossy decoupage medium
1. Cut the paper into triangles about 1" across the base and 2" long.
2. Apply decoupage medium to the back of the paper.
3. Starting at the wide end, wrap the paper tightly around a bamboo skewer.
4. Apply glue to the last 1/2" of the paper (the pointed end), roll until dry, then coat the bead surface with decoupage medium for a glossy finish.
2 paper beads
Clasp
Chain (long enough for your desired necklace length)
Decorative beads (two used here: one large and one small rose quartz)
2 jump rings
2 crimp beads
Wire cutters
Round nose jewelry pliers
1 head pin
1. Cut a piece of chain to serve as the necklace base.
2. Slide the rose quartz beads onto a head pin. Use wire cutters to trim excess, leaving room for a loop, then form the loop with round nose pliers.
3. Find the chain's midpoint and attach the bead charm there by opening the loop with pliers and linking it to the center chain link.
4. Slide the paper beads onto the chain, one on each side of the charm.
5. Open the jump rings with round nose pliers and attach one to each chain end. Secure one half of the clasp to each jump ring, then close securely.
