Is your kitchen extractor hood caked in grease? It's common for cooking fats to build up quickly, clogging filters and reducing suction power.
Fortunately, as a home maintenance expert with years of hands-on experience, I've found a simple, effective solution: soaking the filters in hot water and baking soda. Here's how it works.

Contents
1. Place a basin in the sink.
2. Fill it with very hot water.
3. Remove the filters from your hood (check your model's manual for easy release).
4. Submerge them in the basin.

5. Generously sprinkle baking soda over the filters.
6. Let it sit for 1 hour.
7. Since they may not fully submerge, flip the filters over.
8. Soak for another hour.
9. Scrub gently with a brush.
10. Rinse thoroughly.
11. Air dry completely.
12. Reinstall the filters.
Your extractor hood is now spotless and functioning like new! No more stubborn grease buildup.
This method effortlessly removes encrusted grime from any hood, including brands like Dietrich, Electrolux, Whirlpool, stainless steel, or copper models. Baking soda is a proven, powerful degreaser.
For best performance, clean regularly. On my Ikea hood, filters pop out with a simple button push—yours likely does too.
If you have a bathtub, soak the filters fully there—no flipping needed.
For non-removable parts, wipe with a sponge soaked in hot water and dish detergent. It tackles grease effectively too.
