Lemon serves as an outstanding natural ant repellent. Simply place slices directly in their paths, or position them at key entry points like doors and windows to keep ants at bay. It's ideal for maintaining an ant-free home.
You can also rub half a lemon on doorsteps and window bases—lemon peels work just as well. For prolonged effectiveness, dilute the juice of one lemon in water and spray their common trails. See the trick demonstrated here.

Ants avoid diatomaceous earth because its highly absorbent nature dries out their protective bodily fluids, making it an unbeatable natural repellent.
Sprinkle it along ant trails, floor joints, and cracks where they hide. In accessible areas like attics or cellars, leave the powder exposed. Note: It works best on dry surfaces.

For anthills too close to home, mix 2 tablespoons of diatomaceous earth with 1/4 cup of water. Pour directly into the anthill—as it dries, it delivers the same dehydrating, abrasive impact throughout the colony.

Dilute white vinegar with water and spray on patios or paved areas. Ants detest the odor and will steer clear.
Bonus: It doubles as a weed killer for growth between tiles. Avoid flower beds.
For a supercharged version, soak lemon peels in pure vinegar for 3 days, dilute with water, and spray. While it repels rather than kills, your outdoor spaces stay ant-free.
Avoid attracting ants indoors by staying proactive. Wipe jars of jam or honey clean before storage, keep sugar and cookies in airtight containers, and cover fruit bowls.
