Fall has arrived! As barbecue evenings fade, it's time for cozy, affordable warmth. Drawing from my own home setup, I've switched to a wood stove for maximum comfort at a fraction of the cost.
Traditional electric or gas heating keeps climbing in price. Wood is nearly 4x cheaper than electricity and 2x cheaper than gas—making it a smart choice.
A wood stove offers an economical heating alternative. Wood is a natural, low-pollution, renewable fuel that's kind to the planet. I've found it perfect for my needs.

Ideally, I placed mine in the center of my main living area for even heat distribution. It can also go near a wall with ample airflow space. Keep it away from flammables like parquet or wallpaper, and use an insulating base plate.
Safety first: I added protective barriers around it to shield my kids from hot surfaces during use.
A proper smoke exhaust duct is essential—either existing or newly installed.
Start with efficiency ratings: Higher output means less wood burned.
Match power to your space—typically rated for average square footage. This avoids needing backups (if underpowered) or inefficient low runs (if overpowered).
From rustic to sleek modern designs, there's a model to fit any style and home.
Choose between pellets (pricier but higher yield and automated) or logs (cheaper, hands-on loading). Logs suit my smaller living room perfectly.
Undecided? Combo log-pellet stoves offer flexibility.

Wood delivers 1 kWh per log for just €0.035, versus €0.12 for electricity—nearly 4x cheaper!
My all-electric home used 8,822 kWh/year. Switching to wood saves me roughly €750/year on main areas (bedrooms still need some electric backup). A game-changer!
