DIY Custom Pillows with Cricut: Easy Iron-On Projects for Unique Home Decor

As a seasoned Cricut enthusiast, I treated my family to personalized Valentine's pillows printed with 'Love you.' It's incredibly rewarding and straightforward, especially with a Cricut machine for endless creative variations. I've already crafted two—detailed below—and more are in the works!

Using my Cricut Maker, I cut out text from black glitter iron-on vinyl, perfectly matching my new sofa's style. I then applied it to the pillowcase with the Cricut EasyPress Mini—quick and seamless!

It's as simple as it sounds. Start with straightforward text like 'Love you' for your first project.

Iron-On (Flex) Printing with Cricut EasyPress Mini

The EasyPress Mini is user-friendly: plug it in, press the side button for one of three heat settings (single press for low, double for medium, triple for high). The indicator shifts from orange to green in about 10 seconds when ready.

Prep on a firm surface. Position your pillowcase, place the design, cover with baking paper (better than a tea towel), and press firmly for 15 seconds per section. Flip and press the reverse side too.

Wash the pillowcase first for optimal adhesion and longevity.

Create Your Own Valentine's Pillow

This 'Love you' pillow is a breeze. Design in Cricut Design Space using the free 'Amatic SC' font for a delicate look. Load a pillowcase-sized template to scale perfectly.

Pro Tip: Mirror iron-on designs in Design Space—they cut in reverse for correct application.

Geometric Hummingbird Printed Pillow

Building on my success, I tackled a geometric hummingbird design—inspired by a wall hanging I love. Store-bought versions are scarce, so DIYing it created a one-of-a-kind couch accent.

How to Print This Pillowcase

The intricate triangles required patience to weed, but black glitter iron-on fit one sheet perfectly. Cut with the Cricut Maker, weed carefully (use quality tools for speed), then press as before.

Cricut pillowcases work great, but affordable options from Xenos, Kwantum, Dille & Kamille, or AliExpress are excellent too.
