Build an Easy, Affordable Log Staircase for Your Sloped Garden

Creating a rustic log staircase is a straightforward, budget-friendly way to navigate level changes in your garden. With minimal materials and basic tools, you can achieve a durable, natural-looking feature that enhances your outdoor space.

Materials needed (per step):

  • Pegs: Tomato stakes cut to 70 cm lengths and sharpened with a sickle or hatchet (2 per step).
  • Logs: 7 cm diameter, 70 cm long (adjust length as needed; 70 cm is standard). Use 3 per step, with 18 cm risers for comfortable height.

Tools: Sledgehammer, pickaxe, shovel, level… and a natural slope, as flat terrain won't benefit from stairs.

Begin with the bottom step. Drive pegs into the ground for support, position logs horizontally, and secure them firmly. Follow the step-by-step photos below or join a local gardening workshop for hands-on guidance.
