How to Set Up Multiple Users on Google Home: Step-by-Step Guide

One of the main early criticisms of Google Home was its lack of multi-account support. In April, Google rolled out multi-user voice recognition, allowing your speaker to handle up to six users simultaneously. It identifies each voice for tailored responses—a step ahead of Amazon Echo, where you must manually switch profiles via Alexa.

Google Home makes it seamless by automatically detecting who's speaking, and setup is straightforward.

How to Get Started

  1. Download the Google Home app on your phone. No need for the original setup account—just ensure you're on the same Wi-Fi network as your Google Home.
  2. Open the app, skip device discovery, and sign in with your own Google account. You'll see all connected Google devices, including your Home speaker.
  3. Tap Link to my account under the Google Home icon.
  4. The app prompts you to say “Okay Google” and “Hello Google” twice each for voice training. Test it by asking, “Ok Google, what's my name?”

And you're done! Now enjoy personalized access to your Google Calendar, work traffic updates (via saved Maps locations), and more.

Through the app's Google Home settings, customize your music services like Spotify, streaming apps like Netflix, news preferences, smart home devices, shopping lists, and beyond.

With a Chromecast, issue voice commands to play YouTube videos from your account. This works for US and UK users.
