How to Make Pinwheel Cake Toppers

These little wheels are easy to make and can be used to decorate parties, weddings or showers.

- rule
- pencil
- cutting wheel or scissors
- Scrap paper
- glue gun
- toothpicks

Cut the paper to the diameter you want the pinwheel to be. Use four to five leaves for a pinwheel. Stack the paper and fold it accordion style. If you're making multiple pinwheels, it looks great if you vary the width of the fold.

Staple, tape, or hot glue the ends of each strip of paper. The accordion will stand upright and look like a screen.

Lay the wrinkled paper face down flat. This part can be very tricky. Many arise and cause great frustration. This is by far the hardest step, but don't undo your pretty accordion folds.

Insert a toothpick, dowel, or straw into the flattened grinder. Hold it steady with one hand as you prepare your glue gun. On the back of the pinwheel, in one of the accordion folds, place a large dollop of hot glue and insert the handle from the center point down so that it protrudes from the pinwheel.

There are three ways to do this:
- Make a smaller pinwheel to cover the hole.
- Cut out a circle from the same paper and stick it on the back of your pinwheel.
- Put extra glue on the center point of the pinwheel and stick a small button.
