Energy costs are taking a bigger bite out of our budgets these days. Fortunately, simple switches like energy-saving bulbs can meaningfully lower your bills.
In my small Parisian apartment, I replaced half my old bulbs with low-consumption ones a while back. The result? A noticeable drop in my electricity bill.

These bulbs last significantly longer and use far less electricity than traditional ones, while delivering the same brightness. They cost a bit more upfront (though prices are falling—e.g., a 40W equivalent on Amazon), but consume 4 to 5 times less energy.
That said, they're best for specific rooms—avoid frequent on/off cycles.
Energy-saving bulbs wear out faster with constant switching, so skip high-traffic spots like hallways or entrances. They also take time to reach full brightness, making them ideal for spaces where you linger, such as living rooms, kitchens, or home offices.
For maximum efficiency, try LED bulbs—they use 5 to 6 times less power (some up to 10 times) than standard bulbs and can last up to 100,000 hours. They're the most economical choice available.
