I've discovered a clever, aesthetic solution by repurposing a cheese grater—a game-changer that saves time, especially for busy mornings.
As someone who's watched my partner wrestle with tangled earrings in those infamous jewelry box black holes (unless you keep the original boxes), I took action. This simple hack surprised her at first, then won her over completely.
Which one to choose?
I started with a bell-shaped grater that was just taking up space—no longer needed since our local cheesemongers pre-grate Emmentaler and Parmesan.
To make it stable, I attached four small curved metal pieces as feet to its widest base using strong metal-to-metal contact glue. This is the only slightly fiddly part, but straightforward with care.
Next, I let my partner pick a color (she went with pale green) and painted the grater. Once dry, it perfectly holds earrings by their hooks!
No bell-shaped grater? A classic flat one does the trick just as well.
After painting, simply hang it on the wall with a single nail through the handle.
