Redesigning Our Daughter's Bedroom: A Fresh Start in Girly Style

As experienced parents who've renovated multiple children's rooms, we nearly completed our daughter Lotte's bedroom last year—new cupboard, custom desk, and a large dormer window. Then we moved, so it's time to start fresh. We have some existing furniture, but the room itself needs a full makeover.

Creating a New Bedroom in a Girly Yet Modern Look

Currently, the ceiling features dark scraps across the entire top floor—it needs to be painted white for a brighter feel. The existing laminate flooring is in excellent condition, so we'll keep it.

When I shared our previous girl's teenage room blog, readers loved the interior but noted Lotte's floor-level bed. Honestly, it never bothered me until we tried mattress-on-floor living ourselves for two years. Now, it's time for proper beds—for us and her.

To furnish her bedroom properly, we need a sturdy bed, a makeup-style dressing table, and a nightstand. We've scoured the internet for the best options.

Not Pink, But Distinctly Girly

Duvet choices are low priority for Lotte; styling is key. She's outgrowing pure pink, though a trendy velvet pink chair caught her eye for the dressing table. She leans toward bold contrasts: black, white, and light wood as her base. She even found the perfect bed to match. Photos are a must, so we've started collecting frames.

A Durable, Stylish Bed for Her Bedroom

We reviewed countless bed options before Lotte chose the Misterbed model with LED strips—it's a favorite of mine too! Available without lights, but the glow sealed the deal, along with the matching bedside table.

We ordered the double size to reuse her beloved mattress. Our kids refuse single beds now—they're thoroughly spoiled!

Wallpaper or Simple Wall Paint?

I'd love feature wallpaper behind the bed for texture, but Lotte insists on plain white walls.

I prefer varied light play in homes, so perhaps concrete-look paint on one wall or subtle wallpaper? What are your thoughts?

A Hanging Dressing Table Finishes the Room

Her old shelf lacked space for essentials, so we hunted for a dressing table. Ikea's wall-mounted option is ideal—no legs to vacuum under!
