As a service member relocating due to a change of station or new assignment, you qualify for substantial moving support. Learn about available reimbursements, updated regulations, and strategies for securing the best quotes.
Since 1st October 2007, new rules on military relocation expenses have been in effect. In 2009, the Ministry of Defence established two reimbursement ceilings. Below, we break down the details and share proven tips for comparing quotes effectively.
Your volume entitlement—the maximum cubic meters covered—depends on three factors: seniority, family situation, and number of dependent children or parents.
For members with over 15 years of seniority:
For members with under 15 years of seniority:
Examples: A soldier with 18 years' seniority, married with three dependent children, qualifies for 25 + 20 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 60m³. For a member with 13 years' seniority in a PACS with one dependent child and one housed parent: 20 + 15 + 5 + 5 = 45m³.
The Ministry of Defence formula determines your expense ceiling:
Ceiling = (Volume × 46) + (Volume × Distance × (0.14 – (Volume – 1) × Coefficient)) + Surcharge
Here, volume is the actual amount moved (in m³), distance in kilometers, coefficient based on volume, and surcharge for floors above the fourth.
To access aid, request quotes from specialized movers. Your unit accepts the lowest bid. The State incentivizes competitive shopping with a bonus: half the difference between your ceiling and the lowest quote. For instance, if your ceiling is €2,800 and the best quote €1,800, you receive a €500 bonus.
Submit to your unit: family record book copy, move invoice, transfer order, and consignment note. Compare quotes thoroughly to optimize savings.
