Materials and Tools:
round paper lantern
black paper or cardstock
little black brads
scissors or craft knife
small hole punch (optional)
red tissue paper and ribbon (optional)
chandelier style pendant light
fabric (optional)
sewing machine (optional)
Steps:
- Using scissors or a craft knife, cut out creepy shapes from black paper or cardstock—think rats, mice, spiders, and other eerie critters. With years of crafting experience, I recommend starting with simple outlines for best results.
- For a striking black widow accent, cut an hourglass shape from the spider's abdomen. Glue red tissue paper behind it for a realistic, glowing effect when lit.
- Punch a small hole in each shape using a hole punch, awl, scissors, or craft knife.
- Thread the brad legs through the hole and attach the cutout to the lantern's exterior by pushing the brad through the paper and fanning out the legs on the inside.
- Install a light bulb-style pendant fixture inside for that perfect haunted glow.
- To hide the cord elegantly, sew a fabric tube at least twice the cord's length. Thread the cord through and gather the fabric for a draped, chandelier-like finish.
