Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Clean and prepare the entertainment console.
  2. Remove old nails from the broken drawer corners, then secure with small "L" brackets using screws.
  3. Fill damaged edges on the console with epoxy putty. Mark the height on the organizer's vertical supports.
  4. Cut the organizer's vertical supports to match using a circular saw.
  5. Slide the organizer into the back of the console. Measure end gaps and adjust to center it perfectly.
  6. With the organizer centered, measure spaces at the ends, top, and bottom.
  7. Set the table saw to this width and rip four 3/4-inch plywood strips. Cut lengths to match the organizer's width using a chop saw.
  8. Remove the organizer, then glue and screw the plywood blocks in place.
  9. Install the slide-out shelf.
  10. Measure the opening under the console's existing shelf.
  11. Cut plywood to the slide length and shelf width, minus clearance for the slides.
  12. Attach front-facing trim to the plywood shelf with wood glue and nails.
  13. Pre-drill and mount drawer slides to the shelf and inside the console.
  14. Add small drawers to the organizer's center.
  15. Position a small drawer in the center slot, mark the shelf location above it, and measure for width and depth.
  16. Cut the shelf to size with a chop saw, then face it with plywood using a nail gun.
  17. Pre-drill and screw the shelf in place.
  18. Repeat steps 15-17 for the second drawer near the top.
  19. Cut a 1/4-inch plywood back panel with table and circular saws to cover the console's rear opening.
  20. Prep and paint all components.
  21. Remove drawers, doors, and hardware; wipe surfaces clean.
  22. Prime with Kilz primer, painting all surfaces except drawer interiors.
  23. Reassemble everything.
  24. Slide in the organizer, drill, and screw blocks to the console.
  25. Level and install slides, using a center punch for hole marks. Insert the new countertop.
  26. Rehang the doors.
  27. Screw on the support board.
